Footloose, Fancy-Free, and Finally Home
I need to be not needed.
Just for a moment.
The ultimate dream? A full day. A 24-hour period where no one needs me.
You know how some people love to feel needed? That’s a special kind of person.
Not me. I crave freedom.
I dream of being footloose and fancy free. I dream of driving off—wind in my hair, music blasting, no destination in mind. Maybe I’m on a motorcycle. Maybe I’m in a convertible. Doesn’t matter. What matters is: I’m going.
No one’s calling.
No one’s asking.
No one even knows where I am—and they’re not trying to find out.
Ahhh. That breath. That exhale. That release.
I let go of expectations.
Let the demands of life slowly drift away.
I visit this place often—this inner escape—in meditation.
And I know, to some, this might sound cheesy. Maybe even depressing. But to me, it’s vital.
When life feels tight, I find space inside.
When the world constrains me, I stretch into my own consciousness.
And there, I remember: freedom lives inside me.
Not in the convertible. Not on the road.
Those are symbols. Mirrors. But the feeling I’m chasing? I can create that myself.
I practice this with all the feelings I desire.
Joy.
Peace.
Love.
Freedom.
I bring them up in meditation—not because they exist outside of me, but because they live within. And the more I cultivate them in the quiet, the more they show up in my life.
Let’s talk about mom guilt.
It’s real.
It’s heavy.
And it can hold us back from who we truly are.
But here’s the truth: it’s not the kids.
It’s not even the never-ending list of mom duties.
It’s what we make it mean.
It’s what our mothers made it mean.
Our grandmothers. Their grandmothers.
Generations of silent conditioning, whispering:
"You’re a mom now. Be small. Be selfless. Disappear."
And so we shrink.
We adjust.
We unconsciously take on this inherited identity.
But guilt—any kind of guilt—is here for a reason.
Not to punish us.
To grow us.
It’s our ego trying to keep us safe.
But our soul?
Our soul wants freedom.
Guilt shows us where our soul is asking for more.
More truth.
More space.
More you.
So yes—freedom lives inside.
And it’s not a passive thing.
It must be nurtured. Tended to.
You have to choose it. Over and over again.
Choose your healing.
Choose your peace.
Choose your joy.
And watch how that inner freedom begins to shape your outer world.
Start today.
Bring those feelings—freedom, love, joy—into your meditation.
Don’t wait for the circumstances to change.
Create them inside.
You hold the keys.
You always have.
If this resonated with you, I’d love to hear from you!
